The I4I Method

Notice. Accept. Add. Test. Reflect. Repeat.

A five-part practice loop that connects improvisational behavior to innovation work without turning either one into theater or jargon.

Practice areas

A loop, not a linear recipe.

Complex work rarely follows a clean sequence. The method gives teams a shared set of moves they can cycle through whenever context changes, communication tightens, or the path forward becomes unclear.

NOTICE

Read the room and the system

Observe signals, needs, constraints, assumptions, and emerging patterns.

ACCEPT

Acknowledge what is true now

Use reality as material rather than spending energy denying it.

ADD

Create forward possibilities

Build on contributions, introduce options, and make the system richer.

TEST

Make a small bet

Prototype, role-play, simulate, or run the next reversible experiment.

REFLECT

Extract the learning

Name what changed, what worked, and what the next iteration needs.

How it works

Practice → reflection → transfer.

Experience first, then connect the behavior to real work.

01

Experience

Participants feel the pattern before naming it.

02

Debrief

Facilitators connect behavior to work.

03

Transfer

The group applies it to a live challenge.

04

Rehearse

A second round builds deliberate range.

The Practice Loop

The loop is deliberately cyclical. In complex environments, teams may need to notice new information, accept a changed constraint, add options, test quickly, and reflect again within minutes.
